Welcome to Year 2!

Autumn 1

What have we got in store for us this half term?

In English this half term we will be exploring the book ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. We will be zooming in on the grammar feature of expanded noun phrases and trying to incorporate these into our retelling of the story. We will also be working on our beautiful letter formation and presentation.

Our reading lessons will look the same as what they did in Year 1 and we will also be continuing with Accelerated Reader. Throughout our reading sessions, we will also be learning some new reading skills as a whole class.

Phonics and spelling will focus on a recap of our phase 5 sounds and then moving on to explore other Year 2 spelling rules.

In Maths, we will be learning about 2D and 3D shapes to start with and then moving on to place value. We will be doing some pre learning of place value within our arithmetic sessions to give us a head start.

Science – Animals including humans

DT – Mechanisms

Geography – Lichfield

Computing – IT around us
