Welcome to Year 1

Autumn 2023

This term we will be learning all about our senses and what school was like at Charnwood when it first opened in the 1970s!

We will talk about how we care for each other, our community and our environment, learn how to cross the road safely, and look at sculptures and prints from a number of different artists before having a go at creating some ourselves.

These are the books we will be using  to help us with our writing:

This is some of the equipment we will be using to support us in our maths and number work:

To support your learning at home you can use the curriculum overview which provides more information about each learning area and the key word mat which provides the vocabulary, reading and spelling words we will be working on this half term together. These can both be found in the useful documents section to download.

Learning at Home

2. Learn your phonics sound by practising what you learn in class each week at home – the sound mats that link to our lessons are linked below in the phonics support.

3. Counting – Try learning your number bonds to ten.

Wellbeing

We understand that sometimes the return to school after a break can be difficult and will do everything we can to support your child. Please be assured that our classroom will continue to be the safe, fun and engaging place it has always been. The return to school will be CALM and all the children will be looked after. If you ever wish to contact us please use Class Dojo to message us – no worry too small – and we will respond as soon as we are able.
