This half term, children will be learning:
These lessons will help children develop balance, coordination, control, teamwork and confidence in movement.
What We Are Learning This Half Term
English
This half term we will be reading Cave Baby by Julia Donaldson. Children will explore the story through speaking, reading and writing activities. We will be learning about nouns and verbs and using these to create our own sentences and fact files.
Maths
Our maths learning will focus on:
- Shape
- Place Value within 10
- Addition and Subtraction
Children will develop their understanding of numbers, counting and simple calculations through practical activities and problem-solving.
Reading and Phonics
Developing a love of reading is a key focus in Year 1. Children will take part in daily phonics and reading sessions to build confidence, fluency and comprehension. Please read regularly with your child at home and record this in their reading diary.
Science
In Science, we will be learning about:
- The Human Body
- Everyday Materials
- Seasonal Changes
Children will investigate the world around them through observations, discussions and practical activities.
History
Our History topic is Homes in the Past. Children will explore how homes have changed over time and compare homes from the past with homes today.
Art
We will be developing our artistic skills through Mark Making, experimenting with different lines, patterns and drawing techniques.
Computing
Children will learn about Computing Systems and Networks: Technology Around Us, exploring how technology is used in everyday life and how we can use it safely.
PSHE
Through our PSHE lessons, children will learn about themselves, their feelings and how to build positive relationships with others.
RE
This half term we will explore the question:
“How did the world begin?”
Children will learn about a range of creation stories and beliefs.
Music
Our music unit is Hey You!, where children will explore rhythm, pulse and rap music through singing and performance activities.
PE
Our PE units this half term are:
Children will develop their balance, coordination, teamwork and fundamental movement skills.
How You Can Help at Home
You can support your child by:
- Reading with them every day.
- Practising counting forwards and backwards to 20.
- Helping them recognise numbers to 10.
- Practising number bonds to 6.
- Talking about their learning and encouraging curiosity about the world around them.
