Year 1 are our school’s Eco-Council

2024-2045

This year we are going to focus on how we can make our school and classrooms more environmentally friendly.  We will also be looking out for national and international campaigns that we share with the school and be part of.

2023-2024

Following on from our focus on saving water with Captain efficient in 2022-2023, in 2023-2024 we looked at how we could help protect our sewers and seas by taking part in Unblocktober.

Unblocktober is a month-long national campaign and awareness month, launched in 2019, to improve the health of our drains, sewers, watercourses and seas.  In 2022 Unblocktober saw more than 66,000 Britons across the country pledge to change their kitchen and bathroom habits at home and at work.

As a school we pledged to stop pouring oil down the kitchen sink and to think about what we flush down our toilets.

In 2022-2023 our focus was on water and the oceans.

We held assemblies with the whole school to teach them about saving water.

We invited in South Staffs Water who held workshops with every class and set them personal challenges to save water.

We also celebrated World Environment Day in June by teaching the other children about plastic pollution and the impact this has on our oceans.

Throughout the year we made posters and created art work to share with others to help spread our message.
