Welcome to Year 6

You made it to Year 6!
Welcome back. Here you will find useful information, as well as website links to support learning at home throughout your time in Year 6.
It will be updated regularly with all the exciting things we will be getting up to and we will also communicate regularly on Dojo.
Autumn Term 1
As usual, this term we will be learning across many exciting topics.
We will begin the term by looking at ‘The Arrival’ a wordless book by Shaun Tan. From the front picture can you use some inference? What might it be about?

We will then be looking at an emotive book called ‘The Last Bear’ by Hannah Gold.

In maths, like in other years, we will beginning our unit with place value – creeping all the way to 10,000,000.
We will then move on to the four operations and end the term with fractions.
In science, we will be studying light and how important it is to us and the world around us. So that we understand this fully, we will be looking at what amazing discovery scientist Sir Isaac Newton made.
What is light? – BBC Bitesize
In history, our focus will be on the stone to iron age. Can you guess how we know about prehistoric Britain?

In order to have a successful year, remember to read at home at least 3 times a week, practise your multiplication tables on TTRockstars (see link) and use MyMaths regularly.
Spelling mats are in the back of reading journals and these should also be practised weekly.
P.E will be confirmed soon and on these day children are to come to school dressed in their P.E kit.
