Year 1
Miss Thomson

Welcome to Year One!

Friday 27th March

We made it to Friday! Well done to everyone who has taken part in our home learning this week!

Maths

Have one last go at counting in 2s.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wwydguSKOU

Make yourself a set of number cards like the ones below and ask a grown up to hide them around the house or in the garden. Can you find them and put them in the correct order?

(psst...! Grown ups... can you add in some odd number cards to try and catch them out!)

Writing

Tricky word: said

As much as I love tricky word "said" if we use it too often sometimes it can make our writing a little bit boring!

Can you create a mind map of alternative words for "said". We will be using these next week for one of our writing challenges so make your mind map and keep it somewhere safe.

If you're struggling to think of any... have a look inside some of your storybooks for ideas!

Science

The animals have escaped from the zoo!

Under the "useful downloads" section there will be a list of animals.

Can you use your animal classification skills to sort them back into the correct enclosures?

Remember to share all of your hardwork on Class Dojo!

Thursday 26th March

Sounds of the Week

ai (like rain)

ay (like crayon)

a-e (like snake)

It's our last day learning about the ai/ay/a-e sounds so let's have one last go at reading those words. Grab a dice and challenge your grown up or siblings to a game of "Roll and Read".

I have also added a sound story to our "Useful Downloads". Have a read with your grown up and try to spot the sounds.

Writing

Under the "Useful Downloads" section I have uploaded a Fairy Tale -ed story sheet.

Read the sections of the stories, can you recognise which fairy tale they're from? Can you find all of the -ed words I've used?

Challenge Task

Choose a traditional tale and write part of the story using some -ed words.

History

Choose an something from around the house and research who invented it. It could be the kettle, the fridge or even the toilet!

Can you find out how this invention has changed over time?

Create a poster showing NOW and THEN.

Wednesday 25th March

Sounds of the Week

ai (like rain)

ay (like crayon)

a-e (like snake)

It's time for some alien words! Draw a family of aliens and use our sounds to create some alien names for them.

Can you sort the real and alien words for Obb and Bob?

https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/2/picnic-on-pluto

Choose Phase 5 for ay and a-e. Choose Phase 3 for ai.

Writing

Use the suffix -ed to write some sentences about what you have been up to.

For example "Yesterday I watched the birds in my garden"

We use -ed when we are writing in the past tense.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxl28KQOHy4

I would like to see THREE true sentences and ONE false sentence. Send your sentences via Class Dojo and I'll see if I can spot the false sentence! Remember those capital letters, full stops and finger spaces please!

Maths

Mr Trickett has organised for us to have access to Numbots! An online counting/addition/subtraction game.

Use your TTRockstars log in and have a go today! Let me know how you get on.

https://play.numbots.com/?#/account/school-login/12566

Art

Use all of your new self-portrait knowledge and draw a portrait of one of your friends or family.

Remember to concentrate on the shape of the eyes - not just a circle and a dot!

Use lines to add texture and tone to create more realistic colours.

Tuesday 24th March

Sounds of the Week

ai (like rain)

ay (like crayon)

a-e (like snake)

Using your list of words from yesteday can you draw me a silly sound picture? I will upload mine on Class Dojo so you can see an example!

Writing

Adding the suffix "-ed"to a word

Can you add -ed to these words and tell a grown up what they say?

help      paint     walk     push     watch     jump    want

You'll notice that the "-ed" might sound different at the end of each word. Watch this video to find out more...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msJIy_f_Xsw

Can you say the words above in a sentence out loud? We will be using them for some writing tomorrow

Maths

Monday 23rd March

Sounds of the Week

ai (like rain)

ay (like crayon)

a-e (like snake)

Be like our friend Geraldine the Giraffe and go for a sound search around the house.

What can you find that has the ai/ay/a-e sound in it?

Write a list of everything you find or any other words that you can think of... keep hold of your list, we will need these words later in the week!

Maths

Gather up your socks and practise count in 2s. If you're looking for an extra challenge record these in a multiplication number sentence.

1 x 2 = 2

(one lot of 2 equals two)

2 x 2 = 4

(two lots of 2 equals four)

Computing Activity

Use this website to program BeeBot around a varitety of mats. My favourite mat is the go kart track. Can you record an algorithm (set of instructions) for someone else to program into the BeeBot.
