Grammar


As you will already know, an important aspect of learning to write well is learning how to use grammar, punctuation and spelling correctly. In Years 2 and 6, the children have a SATs test that assesses all of these areas. We teach grammar, punctuation and spelling regularly within our English lessons to ensure that the children are confident.

Spelling

Each year group will have a Vocabulary Mat for each half term which will include Curriculum Words, Spelling rules and words linked to the topics being taught in that half term. Below is a link to Spelling Frame which has activities to practise different spelling rules from Y1 - 6.

To help us to learn curriculum words, teachers at Charnwood use the 'Making Spellings Memorable' document. This uses a variety of techniques to help children to remember their spellings. You can get ideas to help your child at home with spelling by clicking the image below:
